tf The last photo taken of the Ted and Dora Hickman family together

Ted Hickman was a farmer in Ermelo.

In 1890 he was poundmaster at Hlomo Hlom on the Komati River near Barberton where my grandfather Vivian Leslie Hickman was born.

In 1894 he was merchant of Volksrust.

About 1898 Edward moved to Woodton Estate the Halfway House postcart change point between Johannesburg and Pretoria, where his guests included such Great men in South African history such as Presidents, Paul Krüger, Jan Smuts and Louis Botha. He is said to have planted the gum trees lining the old Johannesburg-Pretoria main road (R101).

He fought on the ZAR side in the Anglo-Boer War. In 1901 was at the Imperial Relief and Government Stores in Johannesburg.

In 1913 he moved to Greytown, Natal, where he was a freelance timber factor. Went insolvent in 1919 because of tickbite fever and foreclosure by transport contractor "Pofadder" Cadle. He then acted as timber and brak buyer for Theo Schloss & Co of Durban.

I have a lot more information including many photos on my great grandfather Ted Hickman that I will add later
